Leslie Lyall

The late Leslie Theodore Lyall was a man who yearned for Christ’s glory on earth. While at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, he led the Christian Union with J. B. Phillips, and played a key role in founding the Inter-Varsity Fellowship (now UCCF). In 1929, Lyall answered the China Inland Mission’s call for missionaries. He led the China Inter-Varsity Fellowship in the 1940s and prepared many young Christians for the persecution ahead. Lyall was expelled from China in 1951, but he remained an authoritative voice on China till his death in 1996, through careful study of news and personal correspondence with Chinese friends.
